Shipping Restricted Items

Importing food to Alaska, like any other U.S. state, is strictly controlled by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. To avoid delays, and to learn more about these specific rules and regulations, please contact the Food and Drug Administration directly via www.fda.gov.

If you are looking to import plants and/or other soil related articles to Alaska, we recommend that you contact the Alaska State Department of Agriculture beforehand (www.dnr.alaska.gov).

It is important to understand that animal products that are subject to the U.S. Endangered Species Act (such as furs, skins, ivory tusks, tortoise shells or other trophies), are subject to confiscation by U.S. Customs. Additionally, fireworks, explosives, hazardous chemicals and waste, narcotics, dangerous drugs and certain medication may be subject to confiscation and criminal prosecution if an attempt to import is made without complying with all necessary Federal and State laws governing such articles.

Please keep in mind that this shipping guide is meant to be an outline of the articles generally involved in shipping personal household goods. It is not intended to be an import guide on any other matters. If you are in need of assistance on importing or exporting matters that do not pertain to household goods, we would be happy to forward your inquiries to a qualified customs import/export broker.
